Types of Grants

Project Grants:  Grants of up to $60,000 are made for projects that have statewide or regional significance. In limited cases that affect our region, we make grants that address federal policies.  We attempt to fund projects that are most likely to protect and preserve the greatest concentrations of ecologically valuable resources, and that produce clear, concrete results.  We provide a limited number of grants each year for institutional and administrative capacity building that are aimed at improving organizational effectiveness, particularly for organizations that work on key state or regional issues.

General Support Grants:  Grants of up to $60,000 are made to support general operating expenses.  General support grants are made to prior grantees that have a proven track record working on issues that are consistent with the Foundation’s priorities. In rare circumstances, we provide general support to new organizations that have been formed to resolve an especially urgent environmental problem.

Emergency/Opportunity Grants: In special cases, the Foundation makes grants to recent grantees in response to an emergency or unexpected opportunity.  These grants are limited to $10,000 or less, and can be made at any time between March 15 and December 31.  The application process for these grants is simplified; funding decisions are usually made within two weeks.  For information on emergency or opportunity grants, contact Kay Treakle.
