Stand Up to Oil coalition prevents the Pacific Northwest from becoming a gateway for crude oil by opposing new oil terminals and the transport and storage of oil in our region. We are addressing the dangers and hazards of crude oil and petroleum products already moving through our region.
We actively engage in advancing policies supporting clean energy investments and transitioning off fossil fuels. The urgency of the challenges we face requires us to help us make progress through our coalition.
We have seen the impacts of mile-long oil trains and know the power of working together across the Pacific Northwest – from Grays Harbor to Anacortes, Longview to Whatcom County, Port Westward to Portland, Oregon. Our focus has been to regionalize the opposition and reinforce our connections along the rail routes and waterways.
Stand Up To Oil is a broad coalition including Columbia Riverkeeper, Friends of San Juans, 350PDX, ReSources for Sustainable Communities, Stand.earth, Communities for Healthy Bay, The Lands Council, Washington Conservation Action, Earth Ministry, Washington and Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility, Friends of Columbia Gorges, Friends of Grays Harbor and Grays Harbor Audubon, Alliance for Community Engagement, and much more.
Since 2014, we have been the fiscal sponsor and manager for the broad coalition fighting the oil industry. With Harder’s support, we have stopped eight out of eight oil-by-rail terminals in Washington and Oregon. The Stand Up To Oil coalition now continues to hold the oil industry accountable for the true costs and the risks that oil transport brings to communities and works to protect the health and safety of communities, waterways, and the environment.
