The Harder Foundation invests in strengthening the effectiveness of the environmental movement, and supports strategies that protect ecosystems and the benefits that they provide to maintain vibrant human communities. Priority will be given to fund organizations that:
- Deploy advocacy, legal, scientific, organizing, and communication assets in creative campaigns and projects to defend environmental policies, influence decision-makers, leverage resources, and win support for durable conservation.
- Develop effective coalitions; build and mobilize constituencies for conservation; and collaborate with diverse organizations, community leaders, public agencies, and policymakers.
- Make a strong economic case for policies that protect natural resources and communities that depend on them.
- Demonstrate leadership, agility and innovation to take advantage of emerging threats or opportunities.
The Foundation makes grants only to nonprofit organizations that are qualified under Section 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code as public charities.
